Golden Mount and Wat Saket Temple

Description

Wat Saket is a temple built on an artificial hill, on Rattanakosin island in Bangkok. If you want to take advantage of a holy place to admire a spectacular scenery of Bangkok, Wat Saket will be your first choice. Indeed nested in a natural setting, up a spiral straircase with more than 318 steps, it offers an open space with minimum frequentation, to admire a superb high view of the metropolis at different heights.
The contrast between the imposing sky-scrapers and the blue sky will take your breath away.
A spire culminates at 260 meters: it is the Golden Mount.
The construction of this temple started in the 19th century under the reign of king Rama I and ended under the reign of king Rama IV.
Hindu Buddha relics, in a Sri Lanka style chedi, can be admired in the temple.
Every 12th lunar month, and for 9 full moon days, during the last week of October and till mid-November, the Golden Mount fair is held. A red cloth is placed around the spire. One can watch there traditional thai theatre, many other shows and enjoy local food.

The temple is open daily from 7.30 am till 17.30 pm
