Museum of Contemporary Ar

The Museum of Contemporary Art at the Dragão do Mar Center of Art and Culture (MAC Dragão do Mar) is a museum of the Dragão do Mar Center of Art and Culture and is located in the traditional Praia de Iracemaneighborhood in Fortaleza .

It was inaugurated in April of 1999 , along with all cultural complex. It was opened to the public with the exhibition Dragões e Leões .

The architectural structure of the MAC is one of the most appropriate of the country's institutions. It currently has fourteen exhibition halls, an administrative area and a technical reserve that has one of the largest space for conservation and restoration of works in Brazil.

The MAC's Educational Action is updated with each exchange of exposition, to offer the groups dynamic and participatory monitoring that contributes to a greater understanding of the expositions.

Spontaneous public service

MAC educators remain in the exhibition space throughout the museum's operation period to welcome and inform visitors. Other activities

Projects

Education Sector and Social Commitment

The Educational Sector develops activities that go beyond the physical limits of the museum and reach the communities, aiming at the formation of the public, and the greater narrowing in the museum-community relationship.

Collection

The Conservation and Collection Sector of the Museum of Contemporary Art of the Dragon Center of the Sea of ​​Art and Culture develops diversified works in the exercise of actions related to preservation and special care with the permanent collection (Pinacoteca do Ceará State and Mac Collection) and floating ( temporary exhibitions). Here are developed the following activities: coordination of assembly, disassembly, packaging and return of the exhibitions, technical reports of works, technical survey in the museum equipment and the works exposed in the galleries, research and curation, project preparation, organization and control of the Technical Reserve , courier services, drafting, framing services (opening of the pass-partout, foan), documentation relating to works donated to the MAC (donation terms and image transfer terms), project preparation.

Actions involving the collection are always accompanied by one of the employees and are properly documented.

Currently the MAC collection has approximately 619 works by local, national and international artists. Besides the collection of the museum, the sector is responsible for the collection of the Pinacoteca of the State of Ceará.

Experimental room 

The Experimental Room is a space for experimentation, with works that instigate the curious look of the MAC audience for the plastic possibilities that dialogue with issues that permeate everyday life.

Art in sieve 

The project of the Museum of Contemporary Art of the Dragon Center of the Sea of ​​Art and Culture aims to bring to the public artists, critics and curators of relevance to local and Brazilian art for a speech about their work and their artistic trajectory, always in line with the production contemporary art. In discussions with the public, we hope that the guests will contribute to the critical and professional training of artists, researchers and students. We also hope that the Art in Sieve project instigates the public of the museum to know and better understand the reflection that is made in the construction of contemporary art works.

Creation day

It is a training project designed for artists, art students and researchers. There are workshops and courses with an average duration of five days and with approaches in various fields and manifestations of art. Both practices involving artistic expression: photography, drawing, sculpture; as well as criticism, philosophy of art, art-education, museology, among others.
