Description
The statue of Iracema inaugurated on the beach of the Mucuripe, on June 24, 1965 by the then president Humberto de Alencar Castelo Branco, honors the character Iracema, the book of the same name by the writer Jose de Alencar, which completed one hundred years of its publication, and is located where India expected the return of her beloved, Martin Soares Moreno.
The work was sculpted by the artist from Pernambuco José Corbiniano Lins, the sculpture portrays besides Iracema, the moment when the white warrior, his son Moacir (inside the basket, on Martin's legs) and his dog Jati, leave our beach on a raft .
The statue was recovered in April of 2006, during the celebrations of the 280 years of Fortaleza.
The statue Iracema Guardiã was made by the artist Zenon Barreto and inaugurated in 1996, in the land of Praia de Iracema, and shows India holding a large arch, looking at the sea, as if in a battle position.
After suffering attack of vandals, the statue was practically destroyed, was restored by the city council in 2012.
Another statue of Iracema, is located in the center of Lagoa de Messejana. The statue is seated, with an arrow in his hand and bathing with a gourd. Their forms were inspired, according to a contest carried out for that purpose, in the model of Ceará State Natália Nara (ex bbb).
It was inaugurated on May 1, 2004, within the celebrations of the 278 years of Fortaleza, and to mark the 175 year anniversary of the birth of the writer José de Alencar Ceará, by then Mayor Juraci Magalhães.
The protagonist of the novel "Iracema" was established as a cultural icon from the law in December 2011.
